Moving to Belarus | Emigrating to Belarus

Moving to Belarus: Although not necessarily one of the most popular destinations for people to move to, Belarus does still attracts quite a few expats from all over the world every year. The international community in Belarus is not very big, but you can find, with some research, some fellow expats.

Anyone that moves to Belarus often does so because he has received a job offer from his company. There are a particularly large number of Russian companies active in Belarus, which means that skilled workers and educated people are always sought for various positions in international or national corporations.

Anyone moving to Belarus should be aware that it is important to be financially secure or to have a permanent job, which should already be found before the move to the Eastern European country.

English teachers are regularly sought after, especially those that can shine with the appropriate qualifications and experience. Since the English language level in the country is not very high, expats often receive plenty of opportunities and are often successful in finding a job.

Language

Anyone that decides to move to Belarus should be fluent in Russian, as the level of English in the country, as already mentioned, is not particularly high and without this skill, you will not get very far.

Ideally, expats should speak the language before moving to Belarus, at least to a basic standard. Otherwise both everyday and professional life and getting to know the local people will be very difficult, because you will not be able to communicate with the majority of the population.

Education

Anyone thinking about relocating their whole family to Belarus should also consider the educational institutions in the country. There are some international schools in the major cities that teach in different European languages.

Most expats send their children to these types of private schools. Minsk and Brest are interesting in this respect, as most schools and universities are located in these cities.

Health System

The general health care in Belarus is relatively good as there is a well-functioning public health system that provides the main medical services. However, this is only accessible to expats when they take on Belorussian citizenship. It is possible to get health insurance through employers and there are many private insurance companies that expats in Belarus like to use.

Culture

Belarus has a typical Eastern European culture, which is reflected in the fact that the food is so good, the people are so relaxed and life generally goes that bit slower. This is especially interesting for those expats who are looking for rest, a stress-free and idyllic life.
