Moving to South Africa | Emigrating to South Africa

Moving to South Africa: South Africa is the only country in Africa that lies between two seas and borders it with its 2,500 kilometers of coastline. It offers many great beaches where the inhabitants of the country, as well as countless tourists that travel there, can enjoy around 8.5 average hours of sunshine per day.

As well as the pleasant climate and exceptional beaches, South Africa is also known for excellent wines, impressive national parks, as well as an extremely hospitable and diverse population of locals. This ensures that every year a multitude of people from all over the world relocate to South Africa to start a new life.

The rainbow nation offers a variety of diverse ethnic backgrounds and is an example of multiculturalism. This allows expats to experience many different backgrounds which can certainly enrich their own lives. This diversity is reflected, among other things, in the contrasting cuisine of the country. So, depending on the location and the locals’ ethnic background, a variety of dishes can be enjoyed and discovered.

Similarity with Europe

The richest country in Africa is particularly attractive to many expats because it offers similar living conditions to Europe, but with a more comfortable climate and society. With an average temperature of over 20 degrees Celsius, life here can be very comfortable. This is a major aspect for many expats who long for a sunnier environment, which encourages them to move to South Africa.

Due to the size of the country, however, there are also different climates in different parts of South Africa. This makes it important to decide exactly where to go in South Africa and what should be considered when choosing the destination city.

Gorgeous nature

The extraordinary nature of South Africa, with its 22 national parks, offers both South Africans and expats a great opportunity to enjoy the country’s unique fauna & flora during their free time. Be it the world-famous Kruger National Park, the Garden Route National Park or the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park – There is a lot to discover in South Africa, especially in regard to the diversity of nature.

This is especially appealing to families as there are countless opportunities to explore the vast nature of the country whilst observing the country’s stunning wildlife.

Languages

South Africa has 11 official languages, the third most official languages for a country in the world after Bolivia and India. However, expats do not have to familiarize themselves with all 11 languages but should be able to speak English to a decent level. It is the dominant language in South Africa and sufficient enough to communicate with people all over the country. English is also the language of choice in professional life, so a good level in that language is definitely necessary before thinking about moving to South Africa.

Job situation

Although there are many expats in South Africa compared to other popular destination countries, it is not easy to officially relocate to the country. Even though jobs are primarily staffed by South Africans, it is still possible to find a South African employer, provided, of course, no South African with similar qualifications can be found.

This also means that, as usual in other countries, high level qualifications, as well as experience and strong language skills, are extremely helpful when finding a job and thus obtaining a residency permit.
