Moving to Kenya | Emigrating to Kenya

Moving to Kenya: Kenya is an East African country that is pretty popular with expats from around the world, as it has exceptional flora and fauna, fascinating landscapes, a friendly, open and enthusiastic population and extremely modest living costs.

Expats who not only live in Kenya but also want to work, first need an appropriate work permit. Jobs for foreigners are only possible if the company has exhausted their search for a Kenyan citizen first before they hire a foreigner.

However, you have a relatively good chance of finding a job if you have a good educational background in an area where there are not enough people in Kenya to do the job satisfactorily. In this respect, there are always opportunities in certain industries, especially for engineers, architects, technicians and scientists.

At the third renewal of the work permit, which takes place approximately every two years, expats are then finally able to obtain a permanent work permit and apply for a Kenyan passport.

Health & Education System

In terms of both the health and education systems, expats should rely on private institutions in Kenya, meaning that you should take out private health insurance and send your children to international schools and universities.

Language

The two most important languages in Kenya are Swahili and English and so you should be able to communicate with people without any problems. Although Swahili is a very interesting language, it is by no means necessary to learn it in order to get along well in Kenya, as English is widely used by the population.

Climate

The climate in Kenya is warm year round, with two distinct climates being distinguishable: those of the coast and those of the highlands.

The temperatures on the coast tend to be much higher, being between 28 and 32 degrees Celsius, most of the year. In the highlands, one can expect average temperatures of about 20 to 26 degrees Celsius.

With regard to precipitation, it occurs much more frequently in the highlands although you will also find it on the coast of the country, but to a much lesser extent.
