Moving to Fuerteventura | Emigrating to Fuerteventura
Moving to Fuerteventura: Fuerteventura is the second largest Spanish Canary Island and is 84km away east from Grand Canaria. Although it is the second largest island, it is also the least populated. This makes it an ideal destination for those expats looking for a quieter and more traditional island life. It is so well-loved because of its more than 150 golden sandy beaches, warm climate, top events and friendly local population.
People from Northern Europe and other parts of the continent have been flocking to the island since the 1960s. Expats enjoy strolling along one of the many beaches or hiking up the mountains of Pico de Jandia to the south-west of Fuerteventura. It will be difficult to get bored on the island as it is famous for its many water sports and top events. It hosts the windsurfing world championship and top Spanish golf events.

Fuerteventura for expats
The island can be reached by plane at Fuerteventura airport (FUE) or by ferry from Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife. It is important to be fully prepared and to do plenty of research before making the big decision to move to the island. The island is stunning with its long stretches of sandy beaches and the impressive cliffs and caves that surround them.
The largest employment opportunities will be in the tourism or service sectors which dominate the local economy. It would be advisable to have an already secured job or well-planned business plan before moving to the island. It is also recommended that expat children have a decent grasp of the local language before making the move as there are no international schools on the island.
