Moving to Romania | Emigrating to Romania
Moving to Romania: Fantastic natural landscapes, outstanding wildlife, a pleasant continental climate and friendly, open and varied culture. Does this sound interesting? If so then Romania may be just the right country for you to emigrate to. Although Romania may not be one of the most popular countries when it comes to finding a new home, many expats from all over the world move to the East European country to seek a new future.
As more and more German-speaking companies are operating in Romania, it is not difficult to find a suitable job here. Of course, salaries are much more attractive when they come from international corporations than they usually do from Romanian employers.
However, in order to be able to work legally in Romania, you first need a work permit, which is issued for a period of 6 months and can be extended again and again.
Highly skilled staff or people with higher educational qualifications find it relatively easy gaining a job in Romania that suits them. It is the same here as anywhere else: those with better qualifications are more sought after than those without.

Language
Although English is relatively widely spoken in Romania, especially among the younger population, it is still recommended to learn some Romanian. It will greatly benefit your everyday and professional life in Romania and help you to integrate into society.
It is extremely helpful to learn the language, at least to a basic level, as it will help you to discover the country and communicate with its people, especially those that do not speak English.
Health Insurance
Expats that have a permanent residence permit in Romania can have full access to the state health care system. But they have to seek medical care from one of the Romanian health insurance companies.
There are of course many private providers that offer various insurance packages, which again include some benefits in terms of different treatments and services.
Cost of Living
The general cost of living in Romania is significantly lower than Western European countries, and this is clearly evident in the price of food. However, contrary to this, imported goods often have prices that are similar to those in their western countries of origin, or may even be more expensive in some cases.
Basically, Romania is interesting for many expats, especially because of the low cost of living. A prime example of this is renting costs, where especially outside major cities; they are very moderate and not nearly comparable to those in Switzerland or other Western European countries.
Anyone who is already financially independent or has a job in Romania paying a salary commensurate with Western Europe can enjoy a particularly high quality of life. They can live a lifestyle in Romania that would be considerably more expensive to do in Switzerland.
