It is located on the English Channel at the Seine estuary and is one of the largest ports in France. The city was heavily bombed during World War Two and has since been rebuilt by the Belgium architect Auguste Perret in the Modernist style of rebuilding. It has now been awarded World Heritage Site status by UNESCO.
Le Havre hasn’t received large numbers of tourists in the past due to the concrete style of buildings and port infrastructure. But more and more expats are moving to the city to take advantage of the growing economy and increasing opportunities. Le Havre is a small but growing city with pebbly beaches, quality restaurants and charming towns only a short drive away. Some of these include Honfleur, Etretat, Trouville, Deauville, St Malo and others. Le Havre offers everything needed to make life comfortable and most places in the city centre are only a walking distance away.
The weather in Le Havre tends to by quite cold and windy in the winter with more moderate temperatures of around 22C in the summer. There is a reasonably sized expat community and the locals on the whole are friendly. Travel is easier in Le Havre than other parts of the country due the more modern grid-like layout of the city centre.
