Moving to Panama | Emigrating to Panama
Moving to Panama: Panama is a Central American country, well known for the popular Panama Canal. The country has much more to offer than just a canal and has many attractions for potential expats.
A major reason why so many foreigners move to Panama is that it is a true tax haven, which is especially appealing to entrepreneurs. On top of this, Panama has fascinating landscapes, vibrant culture and moderate living costs. Panama truly is a great destination for expats from around the world.
People moving to Panama should expect a tropical climate with temperatures of around 28-32 degrees in the day and 22-26 degrees at night, all year round.
However, there are differences in the higher regions of the country where one can expect more moderate temperatures. These temperatures have been known to drop down to as far as 10 degrees Celsius or even lower. Those who prefer not so warm temperatures should take a look at the Pacific side of the country, as it has cooler temperatures than the Caribbean coast. The Pacific side also has the advantage of relatively little rainfall.

Cost of living
The cost of living in Panama is definitely lower than it is in Western European countries but is slightly higher than it is in many South American countries, such as Colombia, Peru or even Ecuador. Therefore one should not expect a paradise in this regard, but can expect moderate prices when compared to Switzerland.
However, the cost of living varies greatly between Panama City and the more rural areas, so it is important to take this into account when choosing where to settle in the country.
Health & Education System
The health care system in Panama is largely high quality, and as an expat, you should definitely take out private health insurance. This is so you can ensure that you receive the best possible healthcare in this beautiful Central American country.
With regards to the education system, it is definitely advisable to look towards private institutions, as they usually offer a better level of education and is an extremely popular option for many expats. International schools and universities are mostly found in the capital, Panama City.
Working in Panama
If you want to work for a local company, you should be aware that they are only allowed to employ a maximum of 10% foreigners. Another option is to simply work for an international company that does not have to meet these requirements.
Panama has recently lightened its immigration conditions, and as a result, more and more expats are moving into the Central American country to lead a more enjoyable, interesting and exciting life.
Investors are especially welcome in Panama, which is why they open many doors to them to make life easier and why investing in the country is a particularly interesting prospect. If starting a business in Panama, people should be aware that at least three local people have to be recruited. This is one of only a few obstacles that the state poses to investors.
Expats who would like to work in Panama as employees should focus towards the tourism industry, as well as the craft and IT sectors, as qualified personnel are always sought after in these fields.

Language
As in almost all other South and Central American countries, Spanish is the official language in Panama. Spanish should be learned, since English is not as widespread in Latin America as it is in other parts of the world.
Speaking Spanish allows expats to not only communicate better with the locals but also opens up better opportunities in the workplace, as well as make simple administrative procedures that much easier.
Spanish skills are therefore particularly important for expats wanting to move to Panama.
